The patent discloses a spatial division multiplexing optical communication system comprising optical devices for the multiplexing and demultiplexing of beams endowed with different multipole phases. This invention proposes an innovative and efficient solution to increase the transmission capacity of the communication network in an effective and sustainable mode. It allows to mitigate the saturation of the communication network, without the need to increase the number of datacenters or alter the existing infrastructure: the invention impacts only the transmitter and the receiver.
The exponential growth in the amount of data traffic over the last decade is leading to the collapse of current optical communication networks. For this reason, technologies that are able to increase the transmission capacity of a communication system are of utmost importance.
