Three-dimensional micro tomography analysis of electrical resistivity (Micro-ERT 3D) can detail soil moisture content and can monitor areas where uptake occurs near a plant’s root system.
This patent improves the 3D Micro-ERT to achieve high levels of measurement accuracy.
In fact, the present invention allows to obtain a resolution such as to monitor the evolution in space and time of the water content of the subsoil and the relative root activity of the plant, thus optimizing the use of the irrigation resource.
The proposed apparatus is also watertight and stainless and can be left in situ for long periods allowing the operator to carry out accurate time-lapse monitoring, otherwise strongly limited by non-homogeneous acquisition conditions.
